We are taught from a young age that our weaknesses should be eradicated. Part of being an imperfect artist is realising that it’s so much more fun to improve our strengths. If you’ve spent even a little bit of time with art, you’ll be aware of a few strengths. These may be really impressive strengths, such as a finesse with watercolour. These may be seemingly insignificant strengths, such as loving the colour blue and using it in every journal spread.
Make a list of these creative strengths. Write them as a list and don’t stop going until you’re really out of ideas. Add to it as you think of things.
Ask art friends, your accountability group, and/or your fellow Get Messians for their objective opinions.
Now, do a character assessment. There is a really great one from the VIA Institute on Character. It requires you to sign up, but it’s totally free.
Share your results with us in the Season Discussion. Using what you have learned from this test, how can you apply it to your art? How can you amplify your inherent strengths in your art?
